Annual Meeting Election Notice from your President

Webmaster (Jim Zeeb) : August 30, 2017 8:53 pm : News

Dear Members & Players,

As we approach the end of the year, elections for our Board of Directors will soon be upon us.  (Please mark your calendars so that you may attend – NOVEMBER 2, 2017 – ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING!   At its August 8, 2017 meeting the Board approved a Nominating Committee Chairperson, Barbara Frantz along with her committee members; Blaire Kilbey and Darline Serano whose job is to present a well-considered slate of capable candidates for Calendar Year 2018.  As the President, I serve on the committee as ex-officio.

It is our hope to have more than one volunteer step up and run for each Board Position.   The positions of President, Secretary, and one Director are open.  PLEASE help the San Luis Obispo Pickleball Club, Inc. and volunteer to have a place in YOUR club.  We need fresh ideas from people that are willing to give of their time and be a part of the decision making for the Club.  Without a strong, forward thinking, unified Board we will become “status quo”!  Regardless of your experience, we welcome your interest.

If you are interested in running for a board position, please notify a member of the Nominating Committee or a member of the Board by Thu October 26th so that we will have time to prepare the ballots for the meeting.

It has been rewarding to serve as President for the past two years, however, I will not be running in this election.   IF you are not able to commit to a Board position, please consider serving on a committee.  The following committees are in need of volunteers and according to our ByLaws at least one Board member will be required to serve on a committee:

  • Membership
  • Facilities
  • Fundraising
  • Publicity
  • Nominating (currently filled for 2017)  – Will need a committee for 2018 Elections!
  • ByLaws

Respectfully,
Bobbi Binder, President
San Luis Obispo Pickleball Club, Inc.

President’s Monthly Message & News For AUGUST, 2017

Webmaster (Jim Zeeb) : August 14, 2017 9:42 pm : News

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL OUR AUGUST BIRTHDAYS!
(If we missed anybody, please do let us know.)

Jason Knox – August 10
James Hilsinger – August 12
Jarred Partridge – August 16
Darlene Serrano – August 25

The AUGUST Board of Directors meeting was quite celebratory and exciting. After many many motions led by our Treasurer, Brian O’Kelly, that were necessary to complete the required steps we are now officially Incorporated.  YEAH!  A huge thank you to Jim Zeeb, for walking us through a very tedious process.  This is a huge milestone for the Club.  Those attending the meeting at Diana’s & Brian’s beautiful home ended the meeting with a champagne toast!  Your NEW Club is now official and will be known as the “San Luis Obispo Pickleball Club, INC.”

Barbara Frantz has volunteered to be our Nominating Committee Chairperson for the 2018 elections. Barbara welcomes all those interested in volunteering for three Board positions for 2018 to email (preferred) her at .   According to our new ByLaws, these are two-year commitment positions; President, Secretary, and one Director.

The SLOPB Club has been invited by the Central Coast Ambassadors Group and has volunteered to host a “local” fun tournament in April 2018. Please come to the September 12th meeting if you are interested in helping to organize/plan/coordinate our very first Tournament.  More details will be discussed at the Board meeting.  I know this may seem too early to start organizing, however, there are certain requirements from the City of SLO that need to be submitted 90 days in advance if we want to utilize the French Park venue.

Bootcamp for 4.0’s & 3.5’s – IF you do not know where you are you may refer to the appropriate skill assessment sheet and “self-rate”.  Brett Noel from Paso Robles is asking for emails if you are interested so that he has an idea of how many would like to sign-up.  The Flyers are on the web site.  You may email with any questions.
We only need 16 from SLO to host at our venue.

Please join your fellow Pickleball Players after play on Tuesday – August 22nd at California Pizza Kitchen in honor of five-month-old JACE – Terri Monell’s grandson who is at Stanford with a rare blood condition. California Pizza Kitchen is contributing 20% of all dinners purchased in honor of JACE.

Our new three-fold brochure will soon be printed! Thank you, Betsy Asmus, for all the work to make this a great hand-out tool for our Club.   It is beautiful!

Mark your calendars . . . November 2nd ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – TIME & PLACE TBD.

NEXT BOARD MEETING – September 12, 2017 – 5:00 PM – 2221 King Ct. #38 – SLO!

President’s Monthly Message & News for December, 2016

Webmaster (Jim Zeeb) : December 29, 2016 10:07 pm : News

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR
TO ALL SLOPB CLUB MEMBERS & PLAYERS

Following up these wishes, we had our annual Holiday Ugly Sweater, Pickleball Play Date, and Pot Luck!  WOW!  What a great turn out!  Because we had so many Pickler’s come out to play (35!) we had to limit the games to “first to reach 7 by two points.”  I want to also acknowledge other Ambassadors in attendance and thank them for coming.  Thank you Kathy Thomas from Morro Bay and Jos Hilden from Cambria!

What a FEAST!  We have some very talented gourmet cooks amongst us.  I already gained my 10# limit and it’s only December 13th!   Thank you so very much to all who contributed to the success of this POT LUCK & FUN DAY.  The weather cooperated and it was a gorgeous day to play PB!   Judi Boscaro made the “fig & cheese pinwheels.”  They were so delicious!  Also, I’d like to acknowledge those who quietly and “behind the scenes” helped to make this a fantastic success!  You know who you are!  Congratulations to all those who participated in the Ugly Sweater contest – several received Club purchased prizes for their efforts, but John Stocksdale took the prized Santa Claus trophy for his pickleball decorated sweater!  (Save it for next year, John, to pass on!)

News from the December Board Meeting:

  • Votes for the Club Logo were completed and our WebMaster posted the results to the website and Facebook that evening.
  • Betsy Asmus has volunteered to join the ByLaws Committee with John Stocksdale & Bobbi Binder.  Betsy has already volunteered to be the Chair for the Publicity Committee.  If you have any news/views, etc. to help promote our club, be sure to let Betsy know!
  • Jim Zeeb has volunteered to work towards getting the Club set up as a non-profit.
  • Jean Hyduchak reported that the Pickleball Lining of the French Park Tennis Court will take place sometime in January.  She has worked diligently with the Parks & Rec folks to make this happen.  Thank you, Jean!  Stay tuned for the exact date, etc. when we will begin playing on our added venue!
