How it works
The SLO Pickleball Club Team Ladder is designed to give members the opportunity to create a team and compete against other teams of club members. The Ladder is a listed representation of the teams in ranked order. The current implementation uses a challenge rank replacement approach for ranking. Teams will be ranked only based upon the results of team challenges. Any team may challenge a team that is ranked above them in the Ladder by one or two positions. If the challenging team wins, they will be ranked one position ahead of the losing team. Over time the ranking should represent the success of each team.
Ladder Process Steps

Create / register a Team
To add a team to the Ladder, the team must be registered. Registration can be accomplished by completing the form on this page with the first and last names of the two team members, their email addresses and phone numbers that can be texted. Both team members must be paid up members of the club for the current year. The form must be completely filled in.
If you want help in finding a partner, you can click here or click on the Find Partner button above to add your name to the Signup Genius signup expressing your interest in finding a partner.
Only the name of the team and its ranking will be listed for others to see when viewing the Ladder. Only the Ladder Administrator and those involved in managing the Ladder will have access to the personal email address and phone number requested in completing the form. However, team members of teams you challenge or team members of teams which challenge your team will be given the email address and phone number of the first team member listed in the team name so that challenge matches can be arranged .
The Ladder Administrator (Admin) will add the newly registered team to the Ladder listing within a few days of the team registration. Once this has been accomplished each team member will receive a confirmation email.
The ranking of the newly registered team may be random or just at the bottom of the Ladder. The newly registered team can then challenge teams ranked above them to have the opportunity to change their Ladder ranking.
Challenging a Team
Listed below is the current status of the Ladder. To challenge a team on the Ladder, you will need to fill in the Team ID of the Challenged Team and your team’s ID. Doing so will send an email to each member of the two teams and to the Ladder Administrator. The challenge will be automatically logged in the list of challenges. You may only challenge a team that is one or two ranks above your team’s rank.
If the Ladder Listing of a team you wish to challenge has an outstanding challenge (a “yes” in the Challenged column), you must wait until that Challenge Match has been recorded before you may challenge that team. Once the challenge has been created, neither team is available for another challenge until that challenge match result is recorded.
arranging and Playing the Challenge Match
The Challenged Team has responsibility to communicate with the Challenging Team within three days of receipt of the email notifying of the Challenge. Failure of the Challenged Team to respond can result in forfeiture.
The two teams will schedule the Challenge Match and play each other. The match will be scored using Side-out scoring (you only score when serving). The match winner will be the team that wins two of the possible three games played. The challenge match may be played at any court following that court’s rules and etiquette.
The goal of scheduling the Challenge Match is to complete the match within two weeks of the challenge date. To that end,
- If your team cannot be available to play in a challenge match within 2 weeks of the challenge date, do not challenge.
- If you find that the team you challenged cannot play within 2 weeks of the challenge, ask the team to forfeit. They can always challenge back when they have available time.
- If you find that your team cannot play a challenge match within two weeks after your team has been challenged, forfeit the match. You can always challenge back.
- If there are issues that are not considered in these guidelines or the teams cannot come to an agreement, the Ladder Admin will decide how to proceed. Even if both teams agree to a schedule delay, the Admin may assign a forfeiture to allow other teams to challenge.
- Remember while many of us are competitive, the Ladder is mostly about:
- getting to play frequently,
- having fun and
- getting to meet and interact with other club members
Turning in the Match Results
The Winning Team will then communicate the results of the Challenge Match (Team IDs, Winning Team, Match Date, Game Scores) to the Ladder Admin so that the Ladder can be updated. The Ladder Administrator’s email is included in the Challenge emails.
The Ladder Administrator will update the Challenge by completing the Challenge Match details on the Challenge log. The Admin will then launch a task that will automatically use the match details to update the Ladder listing.

Analysis
The spreadsheet below shows an analysis of the matches between teams. Look for the team ID of the column headings. That column shows the winning results of that team against teams shown as rows. The diagonal cells in gray show the total winning statistics for the team in the column heading.
